The past year has been a roller coaster ride working to launch the Florida Branch of Platinum Information Services, Inc. We’re starting to make headway with a base of IT Complete, Platinum 24×7 and SMART backup and disaster recovery clients in the Tampa Bay area….and they seem to like us too!

In the past years Platinum has had great success in the Quad Cities market and has gained the trust of clients in locations across the country. Platinum Florida is up and running as of October 1 with our Regional Manager, Jim Brangenberg at the helm. Jim joins the company with a background in Computer Science and Insurance. If your system is still operating on Windows OS 2000 then now would be a good time to upgrade. On Tuesday, July 13, 2010 Microsoft will no longer be updating and supporting Windows 2000, meaning no new security updates, no new non-security hotfixes and no access to Microsoft’s product development resources. To you this results in no helpdesk or phone support so you may want to upgrade to Windows 2003 SP3 or higher.
Additionally, Windows XP Service Pack 2 will no longer be supported. This fix is a bit easier though. By downloading Service Pack 3 you’ll be upgraded to an OS that will remain under Microsoft support. To download Service Pack 3 and upgrade your operating system so you can continue to receiving Microsoft support, please visit the Microsoft download webpage.

Platinum participated in its first tradeshow March 25 and 26, the American Bar Association Techshow in downtown Chicago. The show drew over 1200 attorneys and their support staff to the Continuing Legal Education conference and technology expo.
Platinum attended to promote Platinum SMART and Platinum 24×7 and the importance of having a backup and disaster recovery system in place. Many we spoke to were very receptive of the idea of moving away from a tape backup system and the problems associated with it in addition to the near elimination of down time offered by SMART and 24×7.
Thank you to all who visited the Platinum booth at the ABA Techshow. We thoroughly enjoyed speaking to each and every one of you and learning about your practices. Currently, Platinum is planning to be at the event again next year, April 11-13, 2011. We’re looking forward to seeing our friends in the legal field then!

(Hampton, IL) Platinum launches Platinum Storage Management and Recovery Tool (SMART) Enterprise, the compliment to the successful Platinum SMART Basic.

(Hampton, IL) The first in the Platinum Storage Management and Recovery Tool (SMART) Suite, SMART Basic has been released. SMART-B is a perfect back up solution for companies with single servers, laptops and desktops. This service can move servers from the unstructured backup methodologies such as tape, CD-Rom, and external hard drives. Conventional backup systems are not optimal because there is no proactive detection of backup problems before performing restoration, offsite tape storage of tape is expensive, reduced flexibility for backup caused by fixed capacity per media backup, and the increase likelihood of occurrence of negligence-induced problems (e.g. lost or misplaced data).
SMART Basic can be adapted to any situation that involves a single server, individual laptop or desktop. While SMART Enterprise is a disk-to-disk solution for multiple servers and thousands of laptops and desktops. SMART-E is a powerful disaster recovery tool that can have a company up and running in as little as 15 minutes that contains a built-in archiving system that allows restore time to any 15 minute interval time stamp.
